I guess this is what most users wanted to find out – How many customers or account in a shared hosting server? You can’t easily find it from the web hosting company, they will not tell you. Even if they did, it could be fake.
Answer :- It varies from 100 to 800 hundreds with average 300 accounts. The figure depends on a few factor –
- Monthly cost of the server
- Monthly support fee per server.
- Monthly hosting fee they can charge per hosting account.
- Processing power , e.g. CPU, RAM, Storage and backup storage.
If a dedicated server is priced at $250/month and support at average $150 , then the cost per server will be $350.
Assuming the hosting fee is at $4 per month, the hosting company needs at least 100 account to breakeven. After factor in profits and cost to acquire customer, a hosting company needs at least another 200 accounts on the same server to be profitable.
Server processing power & ram – A Quad core server with 2 GB Ram would probably server at m0st 200 account without performance problem. 4GB server, however, can host another 200 accounts.
Most average user doesn’t care about the number of accounts on the server as long as the account does it’s job. If you have problem with the hosting account and suspect the accounts are FULL, contact the hosting company to move account OR change the hosting company.
