Cloud hosting is a web hosting service delivered from a group of connected servers. The term cloud hosting (also called clustered hosting) is not precisely defined yet.
In general, however, a hosting service can be considered cloud hosting when it is delivered from a fully redundant, multi-server system, in which the resources are dynamically scalable and often virtualized.
In less technical terminology, cloud hosting uses a number of servers all connected together (a cloud), and sites on the servers can use resources from all the servers in that cloud. Processing power, hard drives, and memory are shared. Servers can be easily added or removed as necessary, and if one server is down, sites use resources from other servers instead.
A cloud hosting service is usually delivered from a load-balanced cluster server platform, while the data is stored in a SAN (Storage Area Network).
Cloud hosting providers measure compute cycles, an indicator which measures how much processing time applications require. This enables cloud hosting to be provided and billed as a part of a different service model than that used by other web hosting services. Clients pay for actual resources needed.
SiteCloud is currently offering cloud based hosting at a very affordable price, from $5.95/month. Click here for details.

Company to accept pre-registrations for the .CO ccTLD in the Landrush phase beginning today.
Network Solutions, a provider of web-based technology for small business, website creation, web hosting and domain name registration, today announced participation in the Landrush period for the new .CO country code top level domain extension (ccTLD), which begins today. The company avers that open to everyone, from businesses to individuals, the Landrush phase begins at 2 p.m. EDT on June 21, 2010, and runs until 2 p.m. EDT on July 13, 2010. It adds that the retail price for a Landrush .CO domain name is $270 for the first year.
The company articulates that the .CO Landrush period is where interested parties can seek to register domains not previously registered through the Grandfathering and Sunrise phases, or otherwise reserved by the Registry or Restricted by Policy. If more than one applicant applies for the same domain, then an auction process will be used to allocate domain names.
According to the company, some of the general policies regarding the .CO extension include:
It mentions that for more information on the .CO Landrush period or to apply for a .CO domain name registration, one may visit http://www.networksolutions.com/domain-name-registration/co-domain-extension.jsp.

Keeping up with our promise of providing you with the safest hosting environment, we have to make a few changes to our PHP installation on our Linux Hosting Servers. We will be disabling a few PHP functions that allow users to execute system commands on the servers that disclose system information in a shared hosting environment. These functions are sparingly required by clients and are more of a security threat to your websites.
The functions that will be deprecated are:
system, shell_exec, exec, passthru, php_uname, popen, posix_kill, posix_mkfifo, posix_setpgid, posix_setsid, posix_setuid, posix_setgid, posix_uname, proc_close, proc_nice, proc_open, proc_terminate
We will be making these changes on Friday, 27th of November, 2009. If you are using these functions in your PHP scripts, you will have to inform your customers accordingly about these changes.
Your co-operation is highly appreciated.
Regards,
Team ResellerClub
