Looks like major shared hosting has mutually agreed to stop the price war yesterday. The big players are Hostmonster, IXWebHosting and StartLogic who used to offer shared hosting at as low as $4.95/month.

I can see these top hosting has increased their cheapest plan to at least $5.95/month.
